Amherst Chamber of Commerce participates in Leap of Kindness Day 2024
Global initiative encourages all to do something kind with their bonus day

Amherst, N.Y. – 2024 is a Leap Year, and this means we get one extra day, today, Thursday, February 29, 2024 - Leap of Kindness Day. Leap of Kindness Day aims to inspire communities all around the world to use their extra day to do something kind for someone else.

Started in 2016 by the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, in Saratoga Springs, New York, Leap of Kindness Day began with hundreds of area organizations helping thousands of local people by donating their time, talent and treasure to support area nonprofits, seniors, first responders, health care workers, veterans, animal shelters, etc. In 2020, the initiative expanded with more than 200 communities in the U.S., Canada, and Ireland participating in Leap of Kindness Day. “Supporting our local community and not-for-profits on this bonus day can be impactful,” said A.J. Baynes, President & CEO of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce. “We stand united with our national chambers in building this initiative for years to come.” The goal is to continue growing Leap of Kindness Day into a global celebration of kindness with a powerful positive impact.

The Amherst Chamber of Commerce has participated in Leap of Kindness Day by calling for support for all local not-for-profits. Additionally, they collected donations for Child & Family Services and Haven House. Haven House is Erie County’s only licensed domestic violence shelter.

“Every donation we receive to support Haven House provides essential resources for domestic violence survivors. Your generosity not only helps women, men and children when they are forced to leave their homes but allows people a chance to rebuild and reclaim their strength and dignity in a safe environment,” said Elizabeth McPartland, President and CEO of Child and Family Services.

The Amherst Chamber and other local chambers hope to inspire others in the community to be a part of Leap of Kindness Day as well.
